People are ecstatic once they find their dream home or apartment. They imagine all the ways they can decorate their place and the friends they will invite for visits. However, the actual moving process slips their mind and they become frantic when the day approaches. They realize they don’t have enough boxes to store everything or that most of the items in their home could have been given away. As a result, there are a few tips that each person needs to keep themselves organized for the big move.
Clean your place. You may be moving to a new apartment or buying your first house. Therefore, you don’t want to leave your current place in a mess. Your landlord will be furious and they might charge you with damages to your former home. Besides that, you can see your home in detail and you can start to note the type of items you want to keep for your new home. This will help you compartmentalize certain items into different categories.
Throw away things you don’t need. Clutter will only make your packing process and moving day more difficult. Assess your closet and the items in your home. How often do you wear that sweater? Do you care about the photograph you have on the wall in your living room? If your answer is no to these questions, you should sort the items into categories and opt to sell or donate the items. You can drop your old clothes off at donation bins from Big Brothers Big Sisters, Renaissance and the Salvation Army. If you want to make some money from your items, you can try your luck at thrift shops such as Eva B, use certain apps or join Facebook groups such as Downtown Montreal Clothing Exchange. Craigslist and Kijiji are good options for bigger items such as furniture or technology.
Arrange for transportation. You are obviously not going to carry everything on your back when you move. Therefore, you should assess how many items you need to take with you and rent a car or call a moving service. Ensure that everything is packed properly into boxes before you load anything into a moving vehicle. Your items could be scattered everywhere by the time you go to your new home and that is not how you want to start your new life.
Remember, just be organized and plan ahead so that you have a smooth moving day.
